Well Dylan, let's have a thought experiment. If there is a failing company, and two other companies are thinking about restructuring it. Company A has a track record of successful restructuring, while company B has a record of failure. Would it matter to you who does the restructuring?
If you're really investing in the failing company then it doesn't matter. If it matters then it's not the failing company that you're investing in, its really the restructuring company. Bain Capital was successful because they invested in a Bain Capital. They utilized the resources from the failing company.
