The kingdom’s public prosecutor, Saud Al-Mojeb, announced on Thursday that the death penalty is sought for five of the 11 suspects charged in the killing of Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, out of the 21 people in custody. The most senior is Ahmad al-Assiri, a former deputy intelligence chief, who is charged with forming a team for forcing Khashoggi to return to Saudi Arabia. The prosecutor did not say if Al-Assiri was facing the death penalty, Deputy prosecutor Shaalan al-Shaalan added that after Khashoggi refused to return home, the head of the Saudi team in Istanbul ordered him to be killed. He then died from a lethal injection and his body was dismembered and taken out of the building. Shaalan said that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was not implicated in the murder."
I guess being a cog in a murder team does not pay in the end.
