Part of the reason why your immigration system is broken is because you are arguing against policies nobody is suggesting. Of course Canada deports illegal immigrants. Of course we have a strict process for immigrating. There is nothing wrong with that, and more importantly, the vast majority of Americans don't see anything wrong with that. Even so-called "sanctuary cities" are nothing more than cities saying that they aren't going to spend resources enforcing citizen and immigration law, when that is the job of the... wait for it... federal government.
You know what is naive? Imagining that you have some sort of supernatural ability to analyze and understand the motivations of hundreds of thousands of people, because, LIKE, YOU'VE BEEN THERE MAN (friendly reminder that nobody cares Saz - travel does not make you unique). This is why these processes are in place. You are absolutely free to deny asylum if a person doesn't fit your criteria! Nobody is suggesting otherwise. But you are obliged to hear them out first, and that is a norm that makes perfect sense, and always has. The government should make policy that establishes best practices, not rely on the observations of some random whose got a "feeling" about what those refugees are really after. Whether that random is you or the President of the United States.
Further to the point, immigration has always been an issue in the US. There has never been a time when some party or group of people hasn't been playing up fears of foreign subversion via immigration. Whether the Irish, or the Jews, or Catholics, or Poles, or the Chinese... at every step along the way, there has been some asshat talking about "losing the country." And yet it never comes to fruition. Do you know why that is? Mostly because the West believes in and supports due process. We give people the chance to make their case. You can sneak into the Canada or the US, you can make an asylum claim, and it will be evaluated by a judge. There are many flaws to this process, but it is the exact type of process that drives people to the West in the first place. What is the alternative? There is none, really. You either commit to the long-standing practice of at least hearing these claims, and giving people a fair shake, or you adopt an even more arbitrary process that produces even worse results.
For Hillary f**k Clinton to stand up now and say "Well maybe we should listen to the deplorables after all, because they are, like, powerful and stuff" is the kind of thing that should make any thinking man want to put a bullet in their head.
