Also - mortality rate doesn't matter when it comes to economy/recession.

If Europe goes into recession and China is still trying to get everything back online we're in a recession baby. Europe was already on shaky ground - this all but assures it.

I'm going to love watching Trump argue for stimulus just as his predecessor did in 2008. China's PMI/NMI numbers outright collapsed, Europe is next. ISM numbers for March will serve to offer the data points people need in order to wake the f**k up.

The above article is from 2018. no one has been in the position of "head of global health security" on the security council since, because there has been no global health security unit. trump has said this is because "you can never really think is going to happen" so that's why he disbanded it, but the entire point of the whole f**k thing was because the security council saw global health as a threat

at this point the entire pandemic can be the defining moment of the 21st century and will color all aspects of everything in the coming years. so glad we have donald fiddlin trump at the helm

People don't yet grasp how severe this is going to be exactly because of how poorly the US has handled it thus far. Once more data pours in reality will sink in.

Things we have working against us:

- No universal healthcare/uninsured Americans
- This means that people are less likely to take the test because it may not be covered. This hinders our ability to collect accurate and timely data. South Korea has this. Europe has this. Canada has this. China has this. Everybody f**k
has this.

- State and Private Institutions/Capabilities vary widely depending on state
- South Korea can be considered fairly homogeneous due to its size and population centers. A lot of the country lives in the same areas making logisitics easier. While diseases spread rapidly in densely populated areas testing is also much
much easier. In the US this is not true. Moreover, different states offer different levels of care and different levels of coverage. Navigating who pays for what will ultimately have to come from the Executive and Legislative branches. Pray
hard.

- We need money
- Nobody in the US wants to use PTO to cover time off for something they feel isn't necessarily their fault. Nor do some even have it. Most Americans don't have more than $400 in their savings account. Lots of people live paycheck to
paycheck. People are going to want to go to work whether there's a virus or not. Sure going to be interesting to see how the Trump admin handles this one.

yeah i mean, i can work from home and most of the people who work in my building can work from home but... lots of people can't

my russian collegues, they have apparently as much sick time as they want, they just need a doctor's note. doctor's note = 5 days off. they can't do what i do and if they have a headache decide not to work i guess, but i get 5 sick days a year. they get 5 sick days per episode of sickness. i always thought that was some deep cultural difference that i wish wasn't one. yeah it sucks they are away from work, but honestly, i'd appreciate it if sick people weren't working near me

at least now i will never be questioned about working from home. my company had everyone work from home on friday as a test of infrastructure. i think we're going to be testing that more and more in the coming weeks
