Yup, I was clearly wrong when I suggested the federal government doesn't have the right to do this. I stand corrected.

Of course, the nut of my argument still stands. Even if they have the right, doing so doesn't excuse the very real moral implications - namely that you are targeting civilians in order to achieve political goals. Which is terrorism.

I was brave enough to admit that I was wrong. So how about you guys who support the sanctions be brave enough to admit you support terrorism, because that is what it is. The United States does not have the legal right to control technology. Iran has not used nuclear weapons against anybody in the past. No single nation owns the ideas behind nuclear power or nuclear weapons. Therefore, what you are doing is not in "self-defense," and because of that, qualifies as terrorism. So, please, just admit it.

I believe Iran is a signatory to the NNPT, suggesting that sanctions for violation of the treaty are not inherently "aggressive." But I also don't think any aggression is inherently terroristic. Terrorism most often refers to sub-national groups.

I would say we (we being Canada, the EU, America, and various other nations imposing sanctions on Iran) are being proactive. Yes, we are imposing our will onto another nation. This isn't exactly new in the realm of international relations and doesn't inherently mean an act is wrong.

Israel has no such authority given that Israel never signed the treaty itself. It's among esteemed company in this regard, such as Pakistan.

Sure, Israel can do so. But not under the pretense of enforcing a treaty to which they are not even a signatory.

But let's be realistic here--Iran would not use nukes against Israel. They seek nuclear weapons for the bartering chip and the deterrent against military action, not to use them. Iran is fundamentally rational and it would be supremely irrational to destroy a regional rival like israel at the expense if your own survival.

The only people impressed by the chest puffing rhetoric of the present Iranian regime are those entirely unfamiliar with ME politics. May i suggest to you "from Beirut to Jerusalem"? It would be a useful primer if you want to entertain adult discussions of politics in the region.

Well Dylan you have a great point, but what you must understand, is that it won't be Iran that nukes Israel. That would be stupid. It would be hezbollah or one of the other terrorist organizations that just happens to get ahold of one of these nukes. So how are you going to respond to a nuke by a terrorist group?

It's not Iran we worry about as Irans ability to hand it to a 3rd party and then throw up their hands and say they have no idea where this terrorist organization got their nuke. And then if Israel nukes Iran it is then Israel that looks bad and could wind up getting the Soviet Union involved which would then get us involved.

A few well placed JDAM's and all is well in Persia.

Iran would be culpable for hezzbollah's actions in such a scenario, and Iran knows this.

The bottom line doesn't change if Iran uses a proxy to attack Israel as opposed to doing so itself.
