i think they wouldn't really have the votes and the dems can obstruct until the election, easy.

i mean, the government is going to be shut down in october because of the republicans going back on their statements 4 years ago. for the entire month of october, just play ads of republicans stating how they will not allow an appointment in an election year until the new president is installed, and then how they are killing americans by not standing by their word since that's all they need to do to get the government running again

it will be too much.

that said, they will still push it through after the election. dems need to be shrewd before that to stop it, but if they don't, oh well. pack the court.

yeah but after the last time the germans were run by fascists they got a better government made for them by americans, why can't that happen now? i do think our institutions are so battered that they will not survive another assault, if either the gop clings to power or they are left to fester and come back. institutional reforms are needed.

i will say these are short term stop gap measures and that's fine, but dems need more long term thinking

The Democrats absolutely will not stack the courts. They are feckless to an extreme degree. This is the party that had two years of total legislative control and did absolutely nothing worthwhile with it.

As for constitutional reforms, I don't see a scenario where that happens that doesn't degenerate into open civil war. You can follow the legal process and do it all by the books, the end result will be the Republicans abandoning democracy while engaging in widespread terrorism. We are talking about probably the single most dangerous and ignorant electorate in the entire world.

Now, to be clear, America will always be a great power, wealthy and strong. But the days of leading are over. You absolutely cannot be trusted to do anything you say you will and, because of that, your ability to lead has been destroyed. You can invade and destroy, you can humiliate smaller countries like Canada, but as far as creating and enforcing sensible international relations, you're done.
