California really has to fix their messed up recall laws

that 12% of the people who voted in an election can spur the recall the governor is pretty low bar and insanity

that the governor requires 50%+ of the vote, and if he fails with 49%, then whomever of his *checks notes* 46 competitors get the most votes is governor is criminal insanity. california is going to end up with the trumpiest f**k governor in the country

Yeah it's going to be fun for sure. I still think Newsom will stay in but...if he doesn't it will not be pretty. I doubt even all the dems in this blue state understand how this vote works.

Newsom will lose with 48% of the vote. The next biggest candidate at 9% will become governor, and Diane Feinstein, shocked at the results, will promptly have a heart attack and die, killing the infrastructure bill

What are the rules for recall?

It's what I said for California. They need 12% of the total votes in the last election in signatures. Normally they have 120 days to collect this once it starts (it starts once 65 people agree to it) but because of covid a judge doubled the time to collect 12% of the signatures.

If 50%+1 of the recall election vote to recall Newsom, he will be recalled and whomever has the most votes in the ballot wins. They can have 5% of the vote and get the most votes. There's 46 candidates for replacement, mostly all right wingers and no democrats.

It's absurdly dangerous. It's because of progressives 100 years ago, and has a potential to ruin what's left of Bidens agenda.

Yea, republicans are f**k lunatics but California is a text book example of why you can't just let democrats do what they want. In many cases, left to their own devices, they will actually inadvertently hand power back to the lunatic republicans. While Newsom is being recalled, Abbott and De Santis are going hog wild trying to kill as many children as possible to prove COVID is a hoax, and yet it's impossible to get them out of office.
