Pizza Flyer Help

Okay, so my restaurant is making a big push into pizza, since I'm basically the best pizza chef in the world, and everyone else sucks a giant set of balls. The point is, we are doing a direct-mail campaign in the area... the best part was we bribed our mail lady to deliver it to around 500 houses at no charge, she just gets a free pizza. Good deal. Anyways, I have been working up a few different concepts. One of the ones I thought was cool was a "fairy tale theme."

This is what I came up with. I'd like to know what you think. Please feel free to be as honest as you like, but I am trying to get constructive criticism here, not just Sazari telling me "lil breh, you suck at Photoshop." Because I do. Still, this theme is easy to do and unique enough that it might get noticed, and it won't require me hiring a graphic artist.

Please note that I've removed the contact information that sits right at the bottom of the page, in large, bolded font. For obvious reasons.

What do you think of the theme?

Would it catch your attention amidst other fliers?

Would you bother to read all of it?

Did you think it was funny, cute, stupid, annoying?

Is it easy enough to read, or does the amount of font variation make it illegible?

Not bad. I like it. I would move the word Elgin at the county of elgin over a bit and get it out of the way of the small picture in the top right. For what you're doing I don't really see a problem with it, but perhaps you should offer some sort of coupon or promotion to give people a reason to not throw it away, come in, sample your pizza, and then be returning customers.

I don't think people are going to take the time to read all of that. I think your creativity might be getting in the way of your message. It's tough because obviously you'd like to be imaginative, and I do like the different fonts (although cutting the words out of magazines and newspapers ransom style would be even cooler). Fliers are the most difficult place to get creative. You really need to say everything in <12 words at 72 point font.

Whilst I like the style, for an advertisement its a little hard to read, mostly due to the staccato nature of the font constantly changing.

Clever, but I don't think you want a minimum i.q to 'geddit' if you're advertising for something as general as pizza.


The idea is fundamentally good, i'd suggest moving in the direction of reducing the total number of fonts and the frequency of change to make it a little easier to read.

Okay, so I am thinking that I will reduce the total variation of fonts. Originally there was about 12 different fonts, then it was 6, and I'm still hearing "too much" from other people, so I'm thinking only two fonts. I am also rewriting it, so that it isn't as long, and I'll be taking out some redundancies (eg "...abundant. Abundant but boring." will be "abundant but boring").

I am not really surprised, but this ad appeals very much to women. Of the people I've asked, almost all of them women said that they loved it immediately, and didn't think I should change much. Whereas at least half the men thought it was either too busy, too much variation, or they didn't think it would be effective (too much reading, as Darkhorse pointed out). Perhaps I should do two different flyers, and do separate campaigns? Keep this one for targeting women (who comprise 65% of my customer base btw), and maybe do something like a Wanted: Good Pizza poster for men?

have you thought about adding any images of actual pizza to it? not necessarily a photo of the actual product, but even a cartoon or graphic image of pizza. that way its obvious right off the bat what the flyer is for, then they read the words as supporting details, rather than having to read through a story to figure out what youre selling...

Why don't you try a single font, but with changing font size?
