Rather than thinking about freedom as a single thing, we need to start segmenting freedom into acts. Rather than asking whether we are free, we should ask whether we're free to do A, B, C, D.....etc. Then you sum up all the acts where you have both positive and negative freedom and ask yourself are you satisfied with what you can freely do?
A government can improve the results of freedom segmentation through decentralizing.
Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.
If guns are not outlawed, the in-laws will have guns.
