Boris, I am currently working on my response to your post, should be done sometime tonight. For now, though, I had a couple ideas on how best to proceed.
Exploiteds Plan to Solve the Iranian Problem
1. The United States tells Israel that unless it dissembles its nuclear armament, all aid to the country will stop. The beauty of this - and I'm pretty proud of it - is that such a statement would have zero impact on the strategic realities while generating huge amounts of goodwill for the United States across the Middle East. Israel would adamantly refuse to disarm. Our aid would be stopped. And yet Israel would be under no greater threat than before, since their nuclear arsenal makes a conventional attack on them impossible. Meanwhile, the US would look like a fair and impartial moderator.
2. All sanctions are stopped. Massive airdrops of food and medical supplies are planned, to take place all over Iran. The President goes on satellite television and promises Iranian billions of dollars worth of aid, while asking the regime if such a donation can go forward. The regime refuses, and their credibility suffers a massive blow.
3. The United States promises to open up all diplomatic channels to any Iranian groups willing to take on the regime and establish a democratic government. It promises to sell nuclear power plants to the newly established government. It uses the military to send intelligence information about regime movements and troop strengths to these groups via satellite television. It promises to ensure the sanctity of Iranian borders during the revolution. Finally, it offers billions of dollars worth of aid for the government to rebuild the country.
This would be a great start. Any suggestions on this?
