The divergence between Obama's 2008 campaign rhetoric on the drug war and the reality of his first term prosecution of it is atrocious. No way around that. But I think there's truth to the idea that he's just enforcing federal law as effectively as he can until the politically expedient moment to vocally support it comes. Hopefully now that he's won a second term, that moment is now. Either way, there's not much doubt in my mind that he's still sympathetic to at least marijuana legalization. I mean...............choom gang. Choom gang 4 life, cuz.

The simple truth, as I've pointed out before, is that Obama is required to enforce federal law. Plain and simple.

If he fails to enforce the federal drug laws, he will get crucified by Republicans, maybe even in a legal way.

So, yes, I expect Obama to respond. I do not think he agrees with it, and I think he is going to do it in a way that is drastically less harmful than, say, George W. Bush Sr.
