If you owned slaves would you free them?

Back then hotness was all about class. If you worked dawn till dusk and squeezed out a new kid every year, you probably looked pretty bad by the time you were 30. If you sat around in the big house all day and were waited on by your inferiors, you were probably extremely f*ckable. Odds might even be better, with fatties knocking the odds of hotness down by half these days.

although I would institute a "profit sharing" scheme and pay them. I'd also educate them and teach them skills, set up some businesses based on those skills; whiskey distilling, cigar rolling, etc. since we'd all be making money abolition by attrition would take place...after they were free if they wanted to stay on as a partner I'd be down with that.

now, since I'm the wealthiest dude in Mississippi I use my position of power to become Speaker of the State Senate, and use my great authoriti to encourage the other big planters to do the same. I try to make profit sharing fashionable. I pay English and Virginian scholars to write about the virtues of profit sharing.

strict policy though...I never hump my slaves or split up families. I'd bang all the Scotch-Irish poon I could though.

The answer to this is too easy since we all currently agree slavery is wrong, who would really answer no ? I think the far more interesting question is does one think that their opinion on slavery might be different if the lived in the deep south in the 1800s and didn't have the benefit of 21st century morals.

I honestly don't know myself, I would find it hard to really believe for sure that I would have the courage to stand up to the establishment in that way or even the will. Seems to me that otherwise perfectly decent folk can subscribe to some awful beliefs if they are societal norms at the time.

Would have to consider where in the south you're at. Just setting a bunch of slaves free would probably just end up getting them hunted down and killed or viciously punished before being absorbed into someone elses operation. I mean...hundreds of slaves suddenly turned loose in Mississippi circa 1848? Where would they go? What would they do? Woulda been way beyond the capabilities of the underground railroad to disappear that many people.

Simply freeing them would do little more than massage your personal conscience. Would need to provide some means of getting them relocated.

Might be slightly more practical in Maryland.
