If you owned slaves would you free them?

Not really, what if I the morally enlightened 21st century american, were thrown back in time to the 19th century with its significantly different societal context of which I am at best superficially aware... hmmm ... I'd be all like pew pew pew pew pew pew pew.

Its a pointless exercise that equates to asking 'is slavery bad? yes? awesome, high five!'.

Of course I would, but more for selfish reasons and my own legacy than anything else. Imagine if I bought up a whole shit ton of slaves and just took em north and freed them. 1. There would be hundreds of black people who would literally owe me their lives and worship me, it's like a lifetime investment if they all give you 1/10th of their earnings as a thank you. 2. If some slave owner just took hundreds of slaves north and freed them and declared how morally wrong it was, say in 1859-1860, that bro would be in every school house textbook to this day.

It would be extremely impractical not to free them given what we know now.

As hard as it may be for some of you to believe me, I think I would. And I would have hated every single last second of it while I was doing it and every second afterwards.

All of my logic and "money sense" would tell me not to. That everyone was doing it. That it's improper to apply my 21st-century ideals to the 19th-century.

But, I was raised to do the right thing. I can rationalize a lot. But not that much. I'd have to set them free. And, probably help them get up North where they wouldn't run into as many problems.

Then, I'd become a bitter, old drunk man who constantly mutters to himself. And, my muttering would be cussing out that little angle on my shoulder for being such a goody-two-shoes.

I'm one of the ones who voted to keep the slaves btw. White mans burden, damn blacks and too busy founding media empires and running countries now. Far better off picking cotton and tabbakey.
