I think it's an awesome idea. Probably not a charity I'd personally donate to, but I love that they are setting up a system based on voluntary action............putting their money where their mouth is. Very admirable indeed. And yeah, it would be ridiculous if the banks didn't play ball. As long as they get paid, they shouldn't care how.

I think with the OWS brand name behind it, the bank's reaction to this would probably be a lot different than their reaction to the American Homeowner Preservation case cited in the article. It would just simply be a lot more high-profile, and the banks wouldn't want the bad publicity at this point.

Yeah but selling distressed debt isn't the same as being in debt collection.

Anyway, getting back on point, I think the banks will screw everyone over and ruin your life just to squeeze out a few more pennies for themselves, but they won't pass up a deal that benefits them just to hurt someone else for kicks. But either way, my point is that if this allegation is being made, I want to see some journalists follow up and get the whole story. I think it would be a great story to break open if it's true.
