Paul is right, there is a lot of open hostility toward libertarian ideals, in today's society. Look at some of the comments on this thread.
I think part of it is a natural backlash because of the recent increase in libertarian visibility brought by campaigns like Ron Paul's. But there is also an ominous side to it as well. There is a large segment of society that has become cynical, perhaps rightfully so, toward the principles this country was purportedly founded upon and as a consequence we are definitely moving to a more insular, closed, even paranoid, society in which the less independent subjects accept a far more intrusive government presence into their lives than previous, more confident, generations would have ever accepted.
