If Civil War now Confederate would kick ass

Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.
If guns are not outlawed, the in-laws will have guns.

I did mention California. California has a large supply of oil and can produce enough food to support the war effort, but they must play a very defensive role. The Sierra Nevada makes it difficult to get in or out, which means there are a lot of choke points for them to supply the Union.

the South is full of plenty of good fighters but they'd get rolled by shear weight of numbers...again.

id have to give the edge to south in terms of troops on the ground as well
not many in the northeast are passionate and fired up about seceding
the bumpkins in the south on the other hand...if you started handing out free guns and telling them it was okay to kill anyone north of the mason-dixon, i bet youd get a much higher turnout than up here
