I don't think Joe Lieberman is really much an actual maverick lone wolf. He's a product of our current system. Nor do I think he is of any particular relevance much less a dangerous innovation to our political economy. A better assessment of the Lieberman phenomena is it that he is an example of how far the purveyors of partisan politics will go to subvert democracy in order to promote foreign aggression.

In any case, ideally I think the best system is one in which you have considerably more than 2 parties, and in which the people primarily vote for the party rather than the individual candidate.
