Another simple but naive solution proposed to combat the perceived evils of progressivism and socialism.
Assuming a 10% rate is implemented, for the sake of argument, college students making $15,000 a year will hand over $150 (in addition to Social Security, state taxes, local taxes, etc.) while a millionaire forks over $100,000. Who will forego the more essential services and thus be more dependent on government services?
The tax code is overly complicated, but not because of the tax brackets. Exemptions and deductions could still exist under a flat tax system. This is a clarified example of throwing the baby out.
