So what would you guys do with that sort of money? We are talking about a lump sum payment of $280 million.......

I'd buy all my really close friends houses, or pay off the ones they already own... do the family thing, take care of the sisters, parents, aunts and uncles, etc.

Then I'd buy up a forest in my home town, and build 8 to 10 houses. They'd be totally self-sufficient, but completely modern. I'd rent them out only to cool people, at a price to be negotiated, and entirely dependent upon circumstance. Then I'd set aside enough money to make it feasible for as long as possible.

I'd live there myself, spend my days firing guns, drinking scotch, giving money to people for weird reasons, and having awesome conversations. When I got bored of that, I might get involved in an entrepreneurial business venture or two. I'd give away as much of it as I could without dipping too much into the principle. It would be a great life.

Lump sum of 280 leaves me probably 140 after tax.

Probably set me and mine up for life in bulletproof trusts, (That's it people, don't even think about ever asking me for another dime) and then we'd probably best devise some way to vanish.

Most people who win giant jackpots end up suffering for it. Finding out who your friends are is a tough thing to go through. And getting divorced.

We'd probably just be nomads, travelling from place to place in style.

I wouldn't tell a god damn soul. I would get a good lawyer, good accountant, set up a few trusts to make sure there will always be money coming in, set up maybe a 100M trust for when I'm 30-35. Finish lawl school, set up a couple of shell companies to make it look like I have a decent income. After I graduate I would appoint myself some stupid position at one of my shells, make it seem like the company is doing well or whatever and start living a wealthier lifestyle. Get my parents some nice stuff, set by brothers up for life, help out extended family a bit. I would certainly buy a few properties around the US/Globe under the shell companies. Probably live an entourage lifestyle with a few of my bro's out in Cali, bounce around Paris, HK, Rio. When I turn 35/40 Id probably be settled a bit, start getting into business and taking shit seriously. Maybe do politics since money isn't an option, probably do a lot of philanthropy. I would go in big to a few industries that I think would one day explode, shale, social networking, idk something of the like to leave a mark on the world. Would certainly set aside ~5M/10M trusts for each of my kids and with the caveat that the money is there so they can pursue public service, not to blow on yachts and blow.
