that list is a joke. nairobi is becoming the finance capital of africa and most of kenya is experiencing quite a bit of development. to list it as a failed state is absolutely retarded.

most people in africa speak english, french, or arabic. three languages that are very common. it's no different than india, where every region has it's own unique language, yet they are unified by a select few.


plus, must of africa is not that unstable. the majority of the countries in that index that weren't unfairly listed are either having trouble with islamists or don't matter. the entire continent does not need to be stable.

and yet the amount of investment and development seems to indicate that this massive ethnic tension is not worrying to those holding the purse strings in the world.

either way, i've talked to more than a few africans (nigerian and kenyan mostly) and they laugh. LAUGH. at the notions the west has about africa. sure it has problems, no one denied it, but this principle of tribal rivalry is just bullshit spawned directly from colonial era racism.

i mean, how big are these "tribes"? most "tribes" end up being multi-ethnic. it's such a mixed bag of nonsense. the real issue is, as it always has been, rural vs urban, town vs town, in an area of limited resources. and without donning too much of a racist tone, f**k the bush. no one is going to base their investment in nairobi on what people on lake victoria are doing to one another. when that shit hits the cities is when africa is well and truly f**k.
