What happened to great power and great responsibility?
I think in situations where some lunatic starts threatening to drop sarin gas on his own people we have as much moral obligation to intervene as anyone else. We are uniquely able to project effective air and sea power to a degree that others can't, and if the occasion calls for it I don't think we should shirk. Ground forces, however, can be ably supplied by pretty much any other power just as well. They just don't want the political fallout or the expense.
I don't much care if they like us or not. They are human beings all the same. I can't stand to even look at one of my next door neighbors. Doesn't mean I'd let him die in a fire.
