Wouldn't this be the same as expecting the Minister of Health to know all the day to day decisions that go on in every hospital? I doubt this was council policy. Even if they'd have wanted to, they'd have known that taking children away based on party politics would be the same as shooting themselves in the foot.

I was under the impression that being a Councillor (ie the elected guys) wasn't a full time job and they just got expenses and a small allowance. A guy who used to work at my place in the UK was leader of the council for a while. The council officers (ie the managers and executive.... I could have my terminology wrong here) I get the impression are paid well whilst the council workers get an average salary. I knew a girl who worked the front desks at our local council she was on about £22k I believe (sounds alright for just working the front desk but the abuse she had to take on behalf of her ivory tower managers meant imo she deserved a lot more).
As GD implies the councillors don't actually have to know shit about what they're doing; they aren't interviewed and don't need any qualifications for the job, they just get voted in.
