You really should have stopped at attacking the stupid argument. Bringing up Chicago was your mistake.
Chicago has a bunch of guns, but only owned by criminals as the law abiding don't get to have them. So using it as an example of why gun control is necessary doesn't work. It has gun control and still fails.
That said, yes the argument was stupid. That doesn't mean that she shouldn't have a gun, just that having one probably wouldn't have made any difference. You can't stop crazy, but that is a fairly small percentage of crime.
