At this point, with the givens we have, thinking about the likelihood of being a brain in a vat, or a high school project, is totally fu**ing useless speculation.

Well personally, the sound wave thing is, IMO, just hyperbole. Everybody knows we aren't a brain in a vat, we are actually the left testicle of Zeus. Our best bet is to use our collective computational value to alter his hormones, and make him sympathetic enough to release us into the real world, whatever that might be.
