and federal law tends to be above state law in matters of civil rights unless ruled otherwise so "a majority of californians" don't get to decide what it means.

In that some respect, Galt, in cultures where arranged marriages are the norm, everything else shouldn't be labeled 'marriage' because that's not the way its been for thousands of years.
