I thought the trend was going in the exact opposite of one-world government. Don't we have more states today than we did 10 years ago, and more than we did 20 years ago, and more than 50 years ago, etc? Seems to be that we are seperating, not grouping.
And technology is misleading. It enhances our ability to communicate with more people, so I think that seems like grouping, but I don't think that's really the case. If anything, tech seperates us more by making everything indirect and by empowering us individually to do more things than we could before.
Barring any forcable takeover of the world by the illuminatti or aliens, the only one-world government I forsee is one where everyone rules themselves.
