Anyway look, I do actually think there's more to it than guns only guns. I agree with Boris that the differences between say Switzerland and the US despite both having high gun ownership highlight that there are other factors involved. I just don't think that gets guns and their availability off the hook. Just as guns are not the only factor, neither is culture or mental illness or policing etc etc. Guns have a part to play in this.

Inaminate objects get blamed incorrectly, all the time. People being dumb doesn't excuse anything.

The issue here isn't that the knife was available (if nobody had invented guns, perhaps we'd be arguing about sword control instead?), it is that some nut decided to use a common household item to slice and dice a bunch of people.

We can worry about the symptoms, sure. But what we need to think about is the practicality of actually trying to cure the disease.
