the 800 lb gorilla is that the free market isn't moral. We insist on trying to be moral but we also insist on socialist half-measures instead of european whole-acceptance that your citizens are your most prized possession, they don't deserve to fail just because they're failing.
Whether this is good or bad, or whether it will last, is un-knowable,... but it is patently obvious that any social policy that refuses to acknowledge a moral government is a kind of a welfare government... is immoral policy.

Bah, every time something weird happens people say it's some kind of moral failing that is taking over society. But if that were true everyone would be performing the disturbing behavior and it wouldn't seem like weird outlandish behavior.
