Revolution? We still live in democratic countries, but most people still vote either Republican/Democrat Tory/Liberal, Tory/Lib-Dem/Labour (Liblabcon) or Liberal/Labor, depending on their country. There won't be, and won't need to be, a revolution until people are discontented enough to stop voting for the same old tired parties that tend towards mediocrity in order to avoid offending as few people as possible in return for votes...

I assume we're talking about armed, violent, political revolution as opposed to the cultural revolution of the 60's.

I think the main factors are social security & the welfare state (poor, disenfranchised people have less to loose from revolution) and democracy (or at least the pretence of it). People are less likely to violently revolt if they believe they can peacefully vote for change, which of course they can't in any meaningful way under the current political system.
