I think it can only happen if the politicians do something absolutely dumb (like banning all guns), or the economic rug gets pulled under us all.

OP misses that a big part of the revolutions is suppression of public concern or non-official opinion.
Its not just that the government does bad stuff, but that it refuses to let the people talk about it.
The rights recognized by the bill of rights werent just magicked up, these specific ones were enumerated because the British had already violated most of them, or at least tried to do so.

They weren't just magicked up, they were somewhat adapted from the already extant 1689 Bill of Rights. Mostly its common sense stuff.
