NRA maybe not be the voice of gun owners

I always had a suspicion about where the NRA stood in terms of attitudes of gun owners. Seems I may have been a little more right than I thought

I'm totally not a conservative or beholden to any particular ideology in any way and I fully support the right of the individual to provide for their own personal security. It is the most basic foundation of human rights and all others stem from this. Removing this right is in essence committing whatever class this violation is imposed upon into serfdom.

Of course serfdom in the sense of modern western civilization is not that bad relatively speaking, but the fact remains a free man can bear arms.

Well, for what it is worth, I certainly don't belong to the group, nor am i planning to join them so if I am any indication that very well may be true. I am probably an outlier tho lol

However, I'm not philosophically averse to joining some type of voting bloc in support of what I see as any of the basic human rights. I'm pretty much open to any idea that will result in a better, freer society. I think many approaches can work, if the goal is right and the people are committed to the principles that would allow it to work.

I guess I just doesn't see the value in rigidly committing oneself to any particular ideological presupposition. Other than a commitment to libertas, that is.

NRA strikes me much the same as the GOP. Focused to much on the hard right fringe of gun enthusiasts, losing track of the mainstream. I used to read their magazine years ago, but they've shifted so hard (which is understandable, given the ever increasing need to maintain a strong lobby) its just become another political rag. I don't mind an op ed now and again, but when the entire publication is basically a political pamphlet from cover to cover with a few actual articles thrown in, it becomes too much to swallow.
