Good post OP. Yeah, not sure how maintaining such a dogmatic position on tax increases is going to play with the people, but as everyone knows political memory is fickle and by late next year voters may be blaming Obama given the fact that he holds the top office when shit hits the fan.

What are the options now? Last I read Reid might be able to get something through the Senate, but it will stall in the House. Read something perhaps apocryphal though that Boehner could call off Republican voting in the House, is that even a possibility? Either way though he's out as speaker. I'm sad to see they couldn't reach a compromise, could've been a big boon for both pragmatic Republicans and Democrats.

My guess, but here goes:

GOP figures out who's going to be their speaker after we go over the slope/cliff/f**k date and then they pass a budget that lowers taxes for middle/lower class Americans. This way it's Obama's fault that tax rates went back up and they can be the saviors cutting it back down.

Debt ceiling? Who the hell knows. Could be bad. I hope they don't mess with that again.
