Sorry - again breaking my own rule of not reading all the posts. Just don't have time.

These should be need-based solutions. Basically, if you are still earning an income and are eligible for work-sponsored health insurance, you get neither SS nor Medicare. If you are retired, and have sufficient income (defined along the lines of Medicaid and welfare qualifications), then you don't get Medicare or SS.

The only people who should rely upon the government are those for whom the government is the last resort. The government should not be a primary source of care or income for people. Not in a (what we call a) capitalist society like ours.

Problem with that ole' chap is that you have millions of people having a significant amount of money taken from their paychecks to fund the retirement of other people, if they don't get social security.

Telling people "oh hey you paid into this retirement plan..... but you don't get any of it" isn't going to go over well.

SS needs to be scaled back in many places, and expanded in others.

The simple fact is that the people who really need it aren't getting much from the program, because it has been made too all-encompassing.

If you have adequate retirement savings, you should not be eligible for the program.

This sort of program should be for those unable, due to age-related health reasons, to support themselves.
