Actually, you don't take them seriously, which is why your government is legally capable of doing anything it wants, to any person it wants, anywhere in the world, without even telling you about it. What you take seriously is your perceived right to bare arms, to a level that is so far outside the realm of logic, you might as well be talking about your right to own unicorns.

Sorry, all rights have limits, and those limits are determined by your elected representatives. Hell, with enough support, just about anything is allowable.

I will point out for about the dozenth time that banning something doesn't make it disappear. In the case of "assault weapons" it has actually served to proliferate them.
