On topic (if I may), honestly who cares about the rate of fire of a guys index finger, drum magazines, calibers, or anything else. Isn't the entire crux of this argument that certain folks on the hill think a ban on "assault" styled rifles will necessarily curb crime? Because that is easily provable nonsense. These rifles are responsible for around 2% of all firearms crimes (not fatalities... crimes). Added, in 2004 when the "assault" weapons ban expired, crime statistics showed absolutely no rises at all, only that the trending declines in violent crime continued south even in society's renewed exposure to these evil death dealers of destructomatic doom. These kinds of guns don't play the slightest role in violent crime and they never have, and pretty much every LEO in the country would confirm that if asked.
Which begs 2 questions from me. 1. Why is the government so bloody quick to demonize these very specific types of long rifles, and 2. If this ban is not going to put one single real dent in the statistics and "crime wave" that everyone is currently catching the vapors over, what's the point to deny 99.9999989 and 1/2% of the non-drooling, non murdering folks a gun they find utility in? Seems like a very peculiar assault on freedom to me.
The ban (if passed) is nothing but feel-good wimpery, begging that we allow more indulgence, and once again roll our eyes and endorse the latest facile delusion that we need to do this for the people's safety. Sound familiar? I'm right concerned actually, being the suspicious type, because it kinda looks a whole lot like a propaganda campaign. Whatever is really going on, this is certainly redirecting attention, time, and focus away from the antisocial, herostratic fame seeking whackadoos out there sharpening their claws as we speak.
Conspiracy nutter shit aside, an "assault" weapons ban is no less ridiculous to me than a "bogeyman" ban. Both would be equally effective at curbing crime.
