The real question is did this woman have the right to protect herself or not? Clearly neither society or law can do much to protect people in the street in broad day light there or this wouldn't have happened.

I say yes, and she should be able to have any tool available that allows her to put the odds in her favor when under attack. This is the world we live in and no authority can adequately protect you. It's up to YOU. Self defense is just a basic human right and only the most tyrannical mindset would consider it justice to remove it.

Thinking that if you just take all of the guns away it will all be alright is foolishness.

Every situation is different, nobody could say what they would do until they were actually in it. But in the realm of what if. What if one of the 9/11 passengers had a gun, even by mistake of forgetting it was in their pocket. Is it possible one of the towers would still be standing? That we will never know.
