Until the democrats realize that a tax increase on 2% of the population of the country without SIGNIFICANT AND PAINFUL spending cuts will not fix this problem.

I say over the cliff we go. At least the cliff has huge spending cuts in it. Pretty bad when the cliff starts to look better than the democrats proposal.

The Republican Party is an obstructionist organization hellbent on holding out onto 1968-2008 glory days. The public has, for the most part, moved past its conservative social platform and is completely irked by any economic policy that benefits the wealthy.

The elected Democrats and Independents are all pretty much aligned with Obama on these issues. In fact Obama has conceded to a rather huge list of things to the point more liberal senators are pissed off. Clearly this is a failure of the Republican Party and everyone outside of the judicious 25% who hate "the Democrat Party" are aware of this.

My old predictions stand that for the next two decades the Democrats pretty much win the majority of elections until the Republicans become more moderate. They need a Clintonian moderate figure to realign the party.
