O'Reilly/FOX/GOP Still Don't Get It

If they want to make a political party centered around a dying ideology, I guess they can. What no one has a right to do is form a party that advocates violating individual rights, but, alas, both parties do.

I can't believe I'm hearing this now, after all these years: that FOX doesn't represent the GOP? Are you kidding?

I think it's fair to say that Fox News and the GOP are both entities that fall under the category "conservative," however, converativism has many shades ranging from moderate to extreme. What the GOP represent and what Fox News represents may be similar, but there are differences. But also remember, both entities have different goals; one is a political party that seeks to get its members reelected, while the other is a news organization that seeks ratings. Those things (reelection and ratings) can define the beast more than anything.

I think the more accurate description is that both call themselves "conservative" yet are anything but.

FOX News exists as the propaganda arm of the GOP--conservative or not, it's not the point, the party is the point. It forwards the agenda (whatever that is) and dopes up its audience with conspiracy theories/fauxrage and anti-Democratic talking points 24/7.

Anytime you want to gauge where the GOP is at, you simply flip it on. Like the other pieces of the GOP echo chamber (talk radio, Drudge, WND) they all amazingly always are on the same message no matter what day it is.

To claim that FOX in no way represents the GOP is just flat-out denial.

I think that can be mostly true, however because news organizations are slaves to ratings, Fox neccessarily has to be more dramatic than the official GOP mouthpeices. All I'm saying is that they are two different beasts, defined by two different concepts. One is dedicated to getting reelected and almost everything they do needs to be seen through that prisim, and the other is dedicated to getting higher ratings and almost everything they do needs to be seen through that prisim as well.
