I see a tory led council are proposing docking the benefits of obese people that don't take up the help and support of gps. I'm assuming this only applies to fat poor people and not fat tory councillors. Right up your street this Franz I should imagine. Local and or Central government imposing their morals and principles on welfare claimant ?

Are fat Tory councillors recipients of benefits? I'm generally against this sort of imposition but it's not just fat people really. Taxation is used all the time to try and control behavior, isn't it? Smoking and drinking = bad so heavily tax it for example. Are you against imposing morals and principles via taxation or only against it when it involves benefit cuts?

So the rich are shielded-yes they are paying more but face facts they can afford it. Underneath the rich the next group paying more to the deficit reduction are people on benefits and low income families. Yesterdays vote for a 1% cap on benefits will effect not only welfare claimants but working families. Nurses, soldiers etc are all fair gain in this ideological and vicious assault on welfare by this nasty government. This is as much labours fault too-not just because they have found themselves tied up in knots over the whole welfare debate and their general inaction but because they have propped up low wages and private landlords with working tax credits and a housing benefit bill spiralling out of control.

They have left the door open for the tories to carry out these attacks. Yesterdays vote was bitterly disappointing and too little too late for labour. For them to argue they are on the same side as 'strivers' is massively disingenuous when they are supporting a pay freeze for public sector workers.
