So let's discuss something relevant to the debate: Now that you've roundly analyzed pertinent idioms of American Exceptionalism is there any reason to fear that it's perhaps in decline because it doesn't seem as exceptional as it once was?
Alternatively, aside from the quantitative analysis, do we let enough people in from outside the United States? We talk about being the land of the free and accepting of all who wish to enter but in reality we all know that there are quotas depending on which country you're trying to emigrate from as well as rules regarding familial ties and/or profession/education (H1B Visas exemplify this rather well). Could this too be either outright affecting a decline or a symptom thereof? You lament those who now hate that the country is passively secular but I'm also noticing a rise of xenophobia, of people placing blame on other types of people rather than looking at a given problem with individual traits outside of race or home country. It makes me wonder about the preservation of liberty and individualism in this country when we seek to blame illegal immigrants merely attempting to make a better home for their children when we associate them with welfare queens (F.A.I.R.), job takers, or wage depressors. Our corporations seek these immigrants exactly because we want them to work for us, but then I question whether it's to pad their pockets or for the well being of the nation?
Things to ponder.
