FYI....I did quick peek on da googles and the Syrian Civil War (1 year in, 25,000 dead) is on track to be significantly less bloody than the American Civil War (4 years, about 1,000,000 dead - civilians included).

Yup - pretty much agree with Eynon.
What right do we have to intervene in another state's internal affairs? And, even if we did have a right, what do we have to gain?
We have much more to gain by not taking sides, then establishing diplomatic and economic relations with whomever wins.
