I read the NYT only because they seem to have a sliver of journalistic impulse left to do things like link to the shit they're talking about. But I'm also keenly aware of their bias and can read through it if necessary.

i think it was more out of fear of what possible revenge they would seek. the germans were pretty f**k kvlt on the eastern front. like a quarter of the population of the ukraine was wiped out. can't imagine they thought the ruskies would be a-ok with that.
