How much continuous overtime should an employee be allowed?

Nobody guaranteed you cradle to grave employment in one location with everything being perfect.

Hey, hint: This thread isn't about me. But keep it up, hopefully with enough reports they'll actually do something about it. But I doubt it, after all, you lean the same way as the entire staff here. If you're a libertarian or conservative on here you have a different set of rules to follow. But it's ok, who cares. LOL It's more entertainment than anything!

But bleeding heart liberals just can't wrap their mind around the fact that life isn't a vase of roses. They think the gov't should get into every aspect of your life, including your employment beyond a safe environment. Liberals: The answer to lifes problems----GOVERNMENT.

Ideally, work contracts would stipulate some sort of reasonable limit.

I just don't see how you could regulate this via government... a first year lawyer working for a big firm can expect to work 80-100 hours a week to start. And what about doctors-in-residence? Or nurses? They work and are expected to work insane hours. There would be far too many exceptions based on necessity to put a numbered limit on the hours.

How about a stipulation that all employment contracts need to address this, and let the employee-employer work it out in job negotiations? This respects free market principles while also dealing with the fact that many companies are abusing their employees by placing work hours upon them that no reasonable person could foresee.

I don't know many people at all that work 100 hours a week. That is the exception, rather than the rule.
