that's not economic socialism that's a welfare state and that's not how welfare states work. it isn't "more and more people dependent on the government until it can't fund itself". germany is a nice example of how welfare states work. most of europe is, actually. many of their economic problems are in spite of, not caused by, their welfare states.
and social security is fine. the only issue it faces is one of a demographic bubble but that will pass.
