Or...or...job growth hasn't maintained momentum with population growth. Professions requiring higher education have fewer openings relative to new entrants.

If blue collar jobs paid the same as white collar jobs this wouldn't be an issue. And everyone could pursue whatever level of education they felt necessary for their own fulfillment.....
Instead we have this horrible social system, developed from feudalism, that everyone has to conform to to get some crumbs. It's time to free humanity from the burden of being a mass of highly specialized domesticated beasts of burden. I think when society stops looking at the population as a resource to be harvested and starts looking at people as individuals who matter a lot of the social problems that are now considered inherent to human society will simply no longer exist. People will no longer be alienated from their purpose in life and nearly all individuals will be able to self-actualize.
