do you think a roomba is a robot? if so, why is not a car that drives itself? if not, what is it? if not, what even makes a robot? does a robot need artificial sentience or something to be a robot?

are the vehicles on mars robots?

i know you like to go with your feelings instead of facts but if you look up "robot" you'll find it "is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry." technically a dishwasher is a robot as it was built by humans to do something, in this case wash dishes. but an autonomous car goes further. it takes people from where they are to their destination with the person only telling it where it wanted to go. the car then acts as a driver, likely named James who should be a good chap and drive you to your destination, without you having to do things like watch he road. instead you are free to play video games or sleep or jack off to BBW porn or whatever it is that you do

Anyway, I'm fascinated with the idea of how this sort of technology will impact day-to-day lives of humans and what that might mean sociologically. If we become a people who doesn't physically drive anymore, what will that do to our culture? If we no longer use paper? etc. I mean the simple fact that we had food surpluses dramatically changed the way human society evolved. What will not driving do! On average people spend like, 5.5 years behind the wheel of a car. That's a helluva lot of time to do other things.

My guess is no matter how high tech we get, there will probably always be a dirt/gravel road somewhere.
