indy the path to hell is lined with good intentions
good intentions like lowering standards for getting mortgages so everyone can get a slice of the american dream
that turned out so well
in this case, the good intentions are "consumer financial protection bureau". just because the republicans are lined up against it doesn't mean they are against "consumer financial protection". it means they are against the bureau and with good reason. this monstrosity lacks accountability to congress and is therefore not a servant of the people, it's a servant of itself.
congress has created other things like this before (good intentioned policy that made something that wasn't answerable to others and justified it's own existence to no one), such as the independent counsel. what a piece of work that was... congress has since realized its mistake. of course, the independent counsel could be dismissed for "good cause", unlike the CFPB director, and i don't think set it's own budget. which makes this thing all the worse
Americans learn only from catastrophe and not from experience. -- Theodore Roosevelt
