I think this issue presents a very interesting moral dilemma.
Given the state these people live in, it is obvious that there is no justice system to speak of, or at least one we would recognize. Justice would be handled on a community level, and although that has its perks, it is also easily abused, especially in a society with a heavy dose of traditionalism.
If the punishments dished out to criminals are exceedingly cruel, or people are being punished without any mechanism for establishing guilt, does modern society have any obligation to correct this? Or do human rights end when the jungle begins?
