That's not a pretty good case, it is a terrible case.
A mentally disturbed individual was suspected to have committed certain crimes. Police had him surrounded, and the situation was contained. The suspect was no longer exhibiting violent behavior, and there was no chance he could escape. Rather than wait him out or pursue a non-violent end to this situation, the police used excessive and unlawful force in a premeditated way. Imagine if every nutcase with a gun was just burned to death when the cops got impatient.
Any judge with even an ounce of integrity would have these cops charged with murder. There is simply no conceivable way to justify this.
