I don't have any links and I've only caught wind of it through conversation and the occasional channel surfing, but I've heard of internet porn being tied to the long list of addictions that people are sufforing from, breaking up marriages, getting people fired, and generally distracting some people so much that they do very little else with themselves and let things go to shit (hence it being a form of addiction).
I have at least one friend who's marriage ended due to internet porn and his inability/refusal to stop looking at it. Granted, there are some other issues at stake here, such as the wife's lack of confidence and trust, but I'm just saying. I've spent much time looking at online porn myself, oftentimes when I should be doing other things that need to be done and getting very little sleep for the next day, which negatively affected how my day went at work. Interestingly enouch, since I have cut my internet connection (not due to porn), I find myself doing those things that needed to be done and taking care of myself a bit better, instead of drooling in front of a screen until wee hours of the night (I access the Net at work now, and I can't look at porn there).
If any of that has merit in some studies or something, particularly on a large scale in society, I can see the possibility of a need for porn to be removed from society, even though I totally like it. Freedom is one thing, but consequences have to be considered too, which I think is where the fail comes into play very often in what we do as a society and as individuals.
